Energy, empathy, and wealth

How the right people shape your growth.

There’s something about dinners with great minds that always leaves me reflecting on life in unexpected ways. Last night at Huevos at New Bahru, it was one of those conversations – the kind that starts with casual chatter and ends up diving deep into energy, empathy, and wealth.

It was my second night in a row hanging out with Jeremiah, Chloe, and Ben. The night before, we had gone for KTV after a shopping trip at IKEA, and now, over dinner, the discussions took on an entirely different energy.

The aura of attention: Innate vs. cultivated energy

One thing that stood out during the evening was the presence that both Jeremiah and Chloe commanded – without even trying.

Some people have this magnetic aura that draws attention the moment they walk into a room. It’s something I’ve noticed before, but this time, I started breaking it down into two distinct elements:

1. Innate energy: The natural presence

Some people are simply born with it. It’s not just about charisma – it’s something deeper, unspoken, and effortless. The way they carry themselves, the way they enter a room, the way their energy subtly influences the atmosphere – it’s all instinctual.

They don’t have to seek attention; attention naturally finds them. Their confidence isn’t loud – it’s anchored, steady, and undeniable.

2. Cultivated energy: The power of mastery

Then, there are those who develop their presence over time. Maybe they weren’t naturally magnetic, but through experience, mastery, and intentional effort, they learned how to shape their energy.

They understand the art of commanding attention through knowledge, expertise, and strategic communication. They have honed their ability to lead conversations, influence people, and create a lasting impact.

Both types of energy are powerful in their own ways. Whether it’s innate or cultivated, the ability to hold attention is one of the most valuable skills in life and business.

This got me thinking:

  • Is energy something we’re born with, or can it be cultivated?
  • If it can be developed, what are the key traits that make someone “magnetic” to others?
  • How do I personally come across – innate, cultivated, or a mix of both?

What’s clear is this: Whether natural or learned, energy plays a massive role in how we’re perceived and how we connect with people.

Wealth energy and aura: The unseen force of financial success

Wealth isn’t just about numbers in a bank account – it carries an energy, an aura. If you’ve ever been around truly wealthy individuals, not just people who make money but those who embody abundance, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

It’s an energy that’s hard to describe but impossible to ignore.

What does wealth energy look, smell, and feel like?

  • It looks effortless. True wealth isn’t flashy or loud. It doesn’t need to prove itself. Instead, there’s a quiet confidence in the way wealthy people carry themselves. Their clothes aren’t necessarily covered in logos, but everything fits perfectly. Their environment – whether a home, office or even a casual dinner setting – exudes intentional luxury.
  • It smells refined. There’s something about wealth that you can literally smell. It’s clean, crisp, and polished – from the fresh scent of a high-end hotel lobby to the subtle yet distinct fragrance of someone who invests in quality self-care. It’s the absence of desperation and stress.
  • It feels like ease. Wealth energy is calm, composed, and unwavering. It doesn’t rush. It doesn’t panic. People with true wealth aura don’t stress over small things because they operate from a place of abundance, not scarcity. When you’re with them, you feel safe, inspired, and elevated. Conversations aren’t just about what’s happening now – they’re about the future, the bigger vision, the next level.

How to cultivate wealth energy

  1. Shift from scarcity to abundance thinking. The wealthiest people aren’t the ones hoarding every dollar – they’re the ones who understand money flows and expands when used wisely.
  2. Invest in quality, not just price tags. Whether it’s how you dress, the people you surround yourself with, or where you spend your time – wealth is a byproduct of high-value decisions.
  3. Embody financial confidence. It’s not about how much money you have right now; it’s about how you carry yourself in relation to money. Wealth energy means you trust yourself to make, manage, and multiply money.

Empathy: Cognitive vs. emotional

At some point in the conversation, Chloe said something that stuck with me:

And honestly? She’s not wrong.

Most people who are close to me already know this – I’m on the spectrum. Highly functional, well-trained, and aware of it, but still on the spectrum. It means that while I can understand emotions on a cognitive level, I don’t always feel them instinctively the way others do.

Cognitive empathy: My strength

This is where I compensate. I analyse emotions, behaviours, and interactions like a puzzle. I don’t always feel what others are feeling, but I understand what they’re feeling. And because I understand, I can respond accordingly.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing – it makes me efficient in business, decision-making, and handling complex situations without getting emotionally overwhelmed. But there are moments where I wish I could feel things the way others do.

Emotional empathy: The challenge

Emotional empathy is different – it’s feeling what others feel, absorbing their energy in real time. This doesn’t come naturally to me. I try, I really do, but sometimes, I just don’t get it.

This is where self-reflection comes in.

Since I don’t instinctively feel emotions the way most people do, I’ve trained myself to revisit situations, replay conversations, and process emotions in hindsight. It’s my way of bridging the gap between what I understand logically and what I should be feeling emotionally.

This led me to a deeper question:

  • How does the balance between cognitive and emotional empathy shape how we interact with people?
  • Can one fully replace the other, or do we need both?
  • How has this shaped my personal and professional relationships?

What I’ve realised is this: As long as you’re making an effort to understand people – whether cognitively or emotionally – you’re already ahead of most. It’s about intention.

The ice age and wealth compounding: A surprisingly accurate parallel

Then, Chloe brought up something completely unexpected – the ice age. At first, it felt random, but as she explained the process, I realised how perfectly it mirrors the concept of compounding wealth.

How the ice age happens

  • There have been five major ice ages in Earth’s history.
  • Contrary to what people think, an ice age isn’t caused by a sudden freeze – it happens when summers aren’t hot enough to melt the winter ice.
  • Over time, the ice builds up, layer by layer, until it covers continents and reshapes the planet.

How this relates to wealth

  • Wealth works the exact same way.
  • You earn, save, and invest, but it’s not about instant results.
  • If you continuously let your money grow without “melting” it through unnecessary spending, it eventually compounds into something massive.

The key takeaway?

  • Most people underestimate the power of slow, steady compounding.
  • Whether it’s wealth, knowledge, or personal growth, everything stacks over time.
  • If you don’t actively erode your progress, eventually, you’ll reach a point where the results become undeniable.

It’s a reminder that the process matters more than the speed. Just like an ice age takes time to form, wealth-building is a long game.

Final thoughts: Growth is a product of the environment

If I’ve learned anything from my journey, it’s this: Who you surround yourself with matters.

  • Energy affects how people perceive you.
  • Empathy affects how you build relationships.
  • Wealth affects the freedom you have in life.

But none of these things happen in isolation. You have to put yourself in the right environments – with the right people and having the right conversations.

So ask yourself:

  • Are you cultivating your energy or letting it drain?
  • Are you navigating relationships with cognitive or emotional empathy?
  • Are you letting your wealth compound or letting it melt away?

If you’re serious about growth, come join us at the Money Valentine’s Party. Let’s talk wealth, mindset, and relationships – over good drinks, great vibes, and even better conversations.
